England will face Argentina for the Coronation Cup at Guards Polo Club this summer, promising an unmissable match featuring some of the world’s best players and ponies. International Day will take place on Saturday, 27th July, with the feature match on the Queen’s Ground.
Argentina and England have faced each other five times since the revival of the cup in 1971; in 1995, 2000, 2009, 2014, and 2019, with the visitors taking home the trophy each time. Fresh off the back of an unbeaten international season in 2023, the England team will be looking to break the Argentine winning streak and raise the Coronation Cup for another year, having beaten The Commonwealth and Uruguay in 2023 and 2022.
The HPA’s Chief Executive Anna Hall said: “We are thrilled to welcome Argentina for the Coronation Cup this year and look forward to another highly competitive match. This match is the jewel in the international calendar, and we hope that all our members and fellow polo enthusiasts will join us for what is sure to be an edge-of-the-seat contest. We will be putting together the strongest England team possible; Roddy Matthews, our Head of International & High Goal Polo, and the rest of the HPA team will be working hard to make this a day to remember.”
Guards Polo Club Chairman Lt Col Sean O'Dwyer said: "Guards Polo Club is delighted to host the ultimate polo contest, England v Argentina, and welcome the international polo community to Smith's Lawn for International Day. Regardless of the final score we will be guaranteed a wonderful display of high-goal polo featuring some incredible players and their amazing horses. The Coronation Cup is international polo at its very best, being played on one of the finest polo fields in the UK. I recommend everyone to save the date - this could be the game of the year."
The day will open with a Young England team in action for the Whitbread Trophy, showcasing the best of our up-and-coming talent, with the opposing team to be announced at a later date.
