Guards Polo Club is delighted to announce that it has raised more than £31,000 for Mary’s Meals at this year’s Guards Ladies Charity Polo Final. This is a significant amount and the charity has confirmed that it is the equivalent to 310,000 meals. Thanks to the Club’s members, sponsors and friends we can ensure that more than 1,618 of some of the world’s poorest children will now receive a nutritious school meal at their place of education for an entire school year.
Marie Doyle, Interim Executive Director of Mary's Meals said: "We are absolutely delighted with the incredible total raised by Guards Polo Club for our work. These funds will provide nutritious school meals for thousands of children, giving them an incentive to come to school and the energy they need to participate fully in their lessons. We believe this simple act of providing a meal can be a ladder out of poverty for the millions of children worldwide, who are missing out on the opportunities provided by education because of hunger."
Mary’s Meals serves nutritious school meals to children living in some of the world’s poorest countries. The promise of a good meal attracts these hungry children into the classroom, giving them the energy to learn and offers them hope for a better future. The charity is already feeding more than 2.4 million children every school day and with the Club’s help they can now feed many more vulnerable and hungry children.
The founder of the charity, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow, attended the tournament final, talking to members about the charity’s work. He also presented the prizes to tournament’s players, including the Lord Patrick Beresford Trophy to the winning team, TTR Sotheby’s. The Club raised this money through team entries, live and silent auction bidding, retail village donations, tombola and raffle fundraising plus some individual Member donations. So a huge thank you to everyone that donated, supported or attended the event at Guards Polo Club in late August.
